• Middle Ground Lighthouse is in the center of reef.
• Reef is between 200 and 600 feet from lighthouse.

The reef consists of

• reef balls
• concrete rubble
• buoy sinkers
• piling and pier sections

This site also serves as a brood stock sanctuary providing seed clams for the lower James River.Many groups were instrumental in development of this reef including the Coastal Conservation Association of Virginia, Peninsula Chapter; Magann Corporation; McLean Corporation; and Brawley Middle School, Charlottesville, VA.
